Infrastructure that keeps ports running

The global drive to decarbonize the shipping industry and moving towards net-zero in 2050 increases the need for continuous development of shore power infrastructure in ports.

We invest

Plug invests in critical shore power infrastructure, reducing the financial barrier for ports and accelerating the transition to low-emission operations. We frequently invest in partnership with ports and terminal owners, creating aligned interests and shared commitment to long-term performance. By combining industrial expertise with long-term capital, we enable projects that would otherwise be delayed or unrealised — while ensuring strong incentives to maximise utilisation and environmental impact over time.

We build

We design, develop and deliver complete shore power systems tailored to each port’s operational and technical requirements. Plug is technology-neutral and sources equipment from the global market, selecting the most suitable solutions based on performance, reliability and lifecycle cost. This ensures flexibility, future-readiness and alignment with both grid and vessel requirements. From grid connection to commissioning, we deliver robust infrastructure built for long-term operation and scalability.

We stay

Our commitment does not end at commissioning. Plug operates and maintains the infrastructure throughout its lifecycle, ensuring reliability, high utilization and continuous optimisation. We prioritise local partnerships and resources in each port, tailoring the operating model to the available competence and infrastructure. By combining central expertise with local presence, we ensure efficient day-to-day operations without unnecessary overhead or complexity.

Energy infrastructure ports can depend on

Founded in 2018 through the collaboration between Bergen Havn and Eviny, Plug was established to manage and develop shore power for cruise ships and other vessels. From our first installations in Bergen, we have steadily expanded across Norway and Northern Europe.

Scale and responsibility in maritime shore power infrastructure

We develop, finance, build and operate large scale shore power systems for cruise ships, ferries and offshore vessels. Shore power is core infrastructure for modern ports, and we treat it accordingly. Our solutions are engineered for demanding port environments where grid integration, safety, uptime and long term reliability are essential. From early feasibility studies to commissioning and daily operation, we take full lifecycle responsibility.

By integrating renewable energy and scalable system architecture, we enable ports to reduce emissions at berth while maintaining operational continuity. Shore power becomes a dependable part of critical infrastructure, not a pilot project.

Enabling the next generation of maritime electrification

Electrification in maritime transport is evolving beyond shore connection at berth. Hybrid vessels, fully electric ferries and new operational patterns require flexible charging solutions tailored to specific traffic flows and energy capacity. Plug develops maritime charging infrastructure that supports both high frequency operations and long term port planning. We work closely with grid operators, vessel owners and port authorities to ensure that charging capacity aligns with real world demand and future growth.

Our approach combines technical robustness with strategic planning, helping ports prepare for increasing electrification across vessel categories and transport corridors.

Plug Insight™
One interface to manage all shore power operations

Plug Insight™ is the digital backbone of our infrastructure portfolio. It consolidates operational data, energy consumption, performance metrics and reporting into one structured platform. The system provides real time visibility and long term analytical insight, supporting both daily port operations and strategic decision making. It simplifies coordination between stakeholders and enables transparent reporting aligned with environmental targets and regulatory requirements.

By combining physical infrastructure with digital oversight, Plug ensures that electrification is measurable, controllable and continuously optimized.

Building on international standards

All Plug installations are developed in accordance with relevant international standards, including IEC 80005 frameworks for shore connection systems. Compliance is embedded from the outset, ensuring interoperability, safety and future readiness. At the same time, we tailor each solution to the specific traffic patterns, quay layouts and energy infrastructure of the individual port.

Years of experience

Since our establishment, we have expanded from initial cruise installations in Bergen to multiple operational sites across Norway and Northern Europe. This growth reflects both technical capability and trusted long term partnerships. Plug is Norway’s only dedicated shore power company operating as a full service infrastructure partner. Our experience spans planning, financing, grid integration, installation and daily operational management.
